While working on this painting, I strove to convey not just the view but also the feeling. The painting "Blooming Altai" is my attempt to share that moment I'll always remember: a quiet, clear day when the wind has died down and the air is literally ringing with fragrance.
This is the peak blooming season for fireweed, which occurs in this area in mid-July. This is that brief period of time when the colors are at their most vibrant, and the air is especially thick and honeyed.
This mountain slope, completely covered in a purple carpet of fireweed, seemed to me a true natural wonder. I strove to convey the density and richness of this color, so that it literally "splashes" onto the canvas. The only sound breaking the perfect silence in this place is the soothing buzz of bees. They so diligently collect nectar that their work creates a soothing rhythm. The mighty blue peaks of the Altai Mountains in the background are a symbol of eternity and peace, contrasting with the fleeting yet vibrant beauty of a blooming summer.
I hope this painting brings you the same sense of purity, peace, and abundance I experienced while working on it.
